Freelance writer and journalist

Currently living in Portugal, Lorie Ann Cascaro-Halliday is a freelance writer and journalist. She has been traveling and exploring Asia, having contributed news, features and lifestyle stories to travel magazines and news websites.

Her stint as a senior news editor for CNN Philippines and a local producer for Swiss Television SRF sharpened her storytelling and editing skills.

She’s been a journalist for over a decade.

She began her journalism profession in 2010, writing news and feature stories for local newspapers in her native Philippines. Her published articles cover the environment, business, politics, governance, travel, lifestyle and profiles.

For a year, Lorie was an exchange journalist in Laos.

During the program, she visited neighboring Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, as well as South Korea, and wrote for the Vientiane Times.

From landlocked Laos, she moved to Hong Kong to study. She covered the protests during Occupy Central or the Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong.

Lorie earned her master’s degree in International Journalism Studies from the Hong Kong Baptist University. She received a scholarship program from the Hinrich Foundation, where she worked as a senior copy editor for two years after graduation.

Since then, she has been traveling.
